Many teachers and districts are worried about what needs to be covered to help their students be successful on the 3-8 state math assessments. Even though these modules are posted on EngageNY, the message from New York State Education has been for each district to make “smart educational decisions” for their students. The modules are meant as a resource and that is what the teachers attending these trainings came away with. Looking at the Math Content Emphases for their grade level and building backwards the days were spent preparing the best content for their students with a new excitement for the rest of the year.
From these dates a follow up is planned for the spring to bring teachers back together to talk about their progress and to plan for steps up to the spring assessments. The success of these initial Math CLC days helped get a 6-8th grade Math CLC started in December. The hard work and dedication of all of the teachers there at the Math CLC days helped create a positive direction for many of our area teachers and hence, also for their students.
