The permanent Distance Learning station in the Catt-LV Elementary Library is turned on and ready to go! Two reporters from the 4th grade (Cameron Kelley and Aaron Gross) are poised and perusing the announcements that Librarian Lisa LaQuay has put together while the trained, veteran Student Council member and the rookies (3rd and 4th graders Haley Dorman, Tara Ruper, and Macy Pritchard) look on.
The announcements are reported live and broadcast out to the rest of the school each day. Since each day brings different announcements, it is with pleasure that we find Principal Carrie Yohe there on this particular day, adding a special touch with special thoughts for the morning.
Following the announcements the students lead the others in the Pledge of Allegiance, with the camera spotlighting the flag, and then they recite the School Honor Code while focusing on the school mascot - a large, stuffed timber wolf residing in the library.
Making sure that the number of state mandated minutes for Physical Education is met, a DVD entitled “Fit Kids’ Workouts” with Judy Notte Howard is broadcast for about ten minutes. Students work out to the movie, led by students on the screen, all the while standing mostly in place in their homerooms. This is a great way to start the day and a clever idea for supporting PE curriculum.
As the announcements come to an end, the children rush off to class with smiles on their faces. The rookies will be the veterans tomorrow, keeping the training cycle complete.
